Ian Harrison I have no idea what happened during the night. When I got up this morning the plane was flying just above stall speed and vNav was disconnected. I recovered normal flight and re-established the FMC flight path. I don't think the passengers will be flying SAA again in a hurry! I think that, although the FMC gave a max altitude of 34000 when I went to bed, it said 29000 was optimum. I had climbed to 33000 and it seems that the FMC was not happy with that and the plane became unstable. Moral of the flight: don't take off too late at night, when you cannot oversee a decent climb!
Ian Harrison Just to add to my woes, as I was 4km from touch-down, I switched to outside view to check all was OK and was rewarded with an OOM. So landed blind and had to close Smartcars asap before it too froze. Hence no engine shut down. I have been pushing the limits to see how the new system behaves. It is much smoother. Tonight I will turn all the settings down and try to make it without drama!
