Dieter Magnet Captain, when anything out of the ordinary happens, like a go-around, please comment on it before submitting your pirep. Dropping gear at high altitude to bleed speed is not standard procedure, [20:55:09] Gear lever lowered at 7343 ft at 222 kts. You've also been told to watch your overspeeds. You need to manage your descent accordingly not to exceed 250kts below FL100. Please correct this for your next flight.
Rory Hickson A group of BA pilots obviously had an event from Seychelles to Plaisance and one of the last planes arrived at FIMP at the same time as I did. While I called all my intentions on Unicom, the last guy in the group who arrived at the same time as me was not monitoring Unicom. I realised this was what was happening and deviated from the planned STAR slightly (at the FF beacon I turned wide) and tried to slow down to allow for adequate separation. This explains the use of gears at 220kts (while not standard ? I believe it is perfectly within limits). The BA flight came online apologising profusely after establishing myself on finals (he was obviously alerted to my language on Unicom by his mates). This resulted in an unstable approach and go around on my side. The speed exceedance occurred after go around (not during descent) and was an error on my side as I was checking the charts, completely go round checklist and cleaning up at the same time as letting the BA pilot know it wasn?t a problem and we all make mistakes (poor bloke was quite distraught and embarrassed).
